Vasco da Gama Yacht Rally 2007 -2008

Hello everybody! Welcome to our website....

At the moment you read this website, the second Vasco da Gama Yacht Rally, finished in Goa.We are proud and happy that our friends and sponsors One Stop Travel, Marine Solutions and Marina India have build  for the second time and special for the rally a temporary marina in the Mandovi River in the centre of Panjim. 12 Rally yachts have now a safe  docking, during the monsoon time. In September we left Turkey, passed the Red Sea and heading up for India. More than 20 sailing yachts are joining this 2nd Vasco da Gama Rally. Enjoying a wonderful, safe, social and economic journey to the Far East.

October 10-03-08

Until now 16 yachts have show their interest for the third rally from India to Turkey. The start  from Cochin is planned on the 25th of January 2009.

For the fourth rally from Turkey to India, start in October 2009,  more as 30 yachts have show their interest. We try to  publice the new website on the end of this month.

10-07-08 After all the lies that were published by the frustaded crew of the Alondra in some magazines and on the internet, several participants reacted. You can read their reactions on the ‘comments’ page.

01-07-08  After finishing the pontoons for the 12 Rally Yachts in the Mandovi River in Goa ,one month ago. Today the electricity connections for the yachts are also installed.Everybody is very happy with this facility, the only one in India.

Sad News 10/06/08.

On Sunday 8th June good friend and participant in both Vasco da gama Rallies CHRIS VAN VUUREN passed away in hospital after a short ilness. Chris will be sadly missed by all the good friends he made in both rallies. Chris was an experienced sailor having sailed onboard his yacht Rotirik with his wife Tineke  in the Med and Red Sea for the last 15 years., Participants of both Vasco da Gama would like to offer their condolesconces to Tineke and his 2 sons Roald and Erik, Chris will be remembered by many sailors as an optimistic, friendly and fun loving character, always helpful and with a smile.

RalliesLatest News Thursday 19/04/2008,

Yesterday the rally arrived in Goa and all the yachts are anchored in the Verim Bay, just opposite the town of Panjim.Today the prize distribution of the Forts of India Cup Race and the meeting with Marine Solutions about the docking during the monsoontime in Goa. Tomorrow the last captainsmeeting, and the rally have finshed.The Alondra have decided to leave the rally in Mumbai.

 Monday 7 April 2008.

The last 3 yachts arrived on Friday 04/04 just before dark in the Mumbai Anchorage. Today Monday Reckless of Hamble arrived in Goa. Our hosts in Mumbai, Marine Solutions and the Royal Bombay Yacht Club gave us yesterday a very nice welcome party and diner in the club.

Saturday 15 March   I,m Lo the organiser and now in Muscat and spent the whole day in the Indian Embassy for all the visas. With result this will not before Saturday 22 March back in Salalah. We hope to sail at Sunday 23 March. Thanks Eva for your medical story, and I,m very happy you write not that the old man was me.

Saturday March 8.

2 days ago the last yachts arrived in Salalah in Oman.We started from Aden on Wednesday 27 and  most yachts had a stop in Al Mukalla for one day. It was a quiet trip with light winds.Now we are working on getting our visas for India. You can read our updates:(read latest news)

14 yacht are arrived on Thursday 22th February 2008 in Aden (Yemen).The Iddyllic is still in Massawa with engine problems.Later this week we starts to Salalah in Oman.

After departure from Port Ghalib strong Northerly winds made for a fast trip to Sudan. Navigation in this area is not straightforward and four yachts have touched reefs. Two were pulled clear with the help of other rally yachts and one floated free with high water.
